Preparing financial reporting: balance sheet, income statement, statement of changes in equity, statement of cash flows. Asset and liability valuation. Operating and capital leases. The impact of equity transactions. Revenue recognition, revenue measurement, key differences between US GAAP and IFRS.
Lesson 2. Planning, budgeting and forecasting (part 1)
Strategic planning process. Budgeting concepts. Annual profit plans and supporting schedules. Types of budgets, including activity-based budgeting, project budgeting, and flexible budgeting.
Lesson 3. Planning, budgeting, and forecasting (part 2)
Top-level planning and analysis. Quantitative methods such as regression and learning curve analysis. Practice questions, quizzes on part 1 and part 2.
Lesson 4: Performance Management
Factors that should be analyzed to monitor and evaluate performance, including revenues, costs, profits, and investment in assets. Variance analysis based on flexible budgets and standard costs. Accounting responsibilities for revenues, costs, contribution centers and profits. Key performance indicators. Balanced scorecard.
Lesson 5. Cost Management
Cost concepts, flows and terminology. Alternative objectives of cost, cost measurement concepts of cost accumulation systems including work order costing, process costing and activity based costing. Overhead cost allocation. Supply chain management and business process efficiency topics such as lean manufacturing, ERP, theory of constraints, value chain analysis, ABM, continuous improvement and effective accounting processes.
Lesson 6. Internal Controls
Corporate Governance. Internal control risk, internal control environment, procedures and standards. Responsibility and authority for internal audit, types of audits. Assessing the adequacy of accounting information system controls. Business continuity planning.
